Volunteers are the life blood of our charity - which was set up by volunteers in 1981 and is a fantastic example of a volunteer-led organisation.
Some volunteers are based in our a modern open plan office in Gargrave, on ground floor beside the Leeds Liverpool Canal, with onsite parking. There is a bus stop about 200m away and Gargrave Railway Station is about 3/4 of a mile away.

We welcome new volunteers as some of our volunteer team move on to jobs/study etc and so free up space for new volunteers!
As a thank you, our volunteers are entitled to a 15% discount at Cotswold Outdoor, Snow&Rock, Cycle Surgery and RunnersNeed.

Volunteers needed as Walks and Talks Helpers
Can you help us run a year round programme of exciting walks and talks throughout the Dales? Most of our events are on Saturdays, and happen about once a month.
You could help by leading or back marking a walk, or helping set up a talk in a village hall. There will always be other volunteers at the events, so you’ll be part of a small team. You dont need any special qualifications, just a friendly helpful attitude and a commonsense approach.
Everyone is welcome at our events, members and non members - see Upcoming Events for more information. The next event is a morning guided walk looking at the heritage of Ilkley town, with an afternoon talk about the rejuvenation of the Manor House. Saturday 2 December - all welcome to either/both walk and talk, and afterwards a chance to enjoy the town with its seasonal ambiance.
There are many ways to Support our Charity and be a Friend of the Dales, to help keep the Dales special and vibrant for years to come.

"it's more beautiful than you realise; the people are open and friendly and have time for you; your phone might not work which is a positive as you'll have more time - slow down and enjoy the silence".
